Perhaps you should answer to the factual part of my message first before complaining about the personal conclusion derived from it. - Does historical tar overwrite the archive file unconditionally with "cf"? - Does star do the same? - If not, does it completely match the historical behavior? - If not, is it fair to call your attitude self-righteous if you claim the contrary but dare to criticize the software of others because of deviations in the very same sentence? And by the way, does star also still need the "-U" option in addition to "x" to match historical tar behavior?
