Woo, managed to cheat the installer by pulling the usb cable out during the 
sysidcfg stage, i got some device is in use messages and when it had complete i 
pulled the device out again, no messages, then a sense key error, then it fired 
up X for the installer...  so during that period normally the device seems to 
lose its way or not get mounted, but by pulling it out and in the installer 
seems to remember to mount /cdrom ..  cool, now it works ...
