Very likely true, because ACPI needs to be properly enabled for that to work on many systems (until we had the Intel ACPICA reference implementation, power-off failed to work on a number of system in various ways: incomplete power-off, power-off but without the abiulity to power back on until power and battery were removed, immediate reboot, poweroff with funny noises, etc) >It was mentioned on the solarisx86 mailing list that >"poweroff" needs working ACPI support: > > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/21326 > >And the acpi-user-options=8 workaround probably disables too >much of ACPI for poweroff to work.
