We actualy do not try to implement a PMS. We implement a build system
mostly,
which could be used together whith SVR4 PMS. But right now we use a
"better" tar version.
Ok, then SPS is in the catergory of HPMS. a system sit on top of existing
PMS and
interact with existing PMS to do the package mangement tasks like
install,remove,upgrade,packaging etc.
The modern PMS support not just install, they support auto install, remove
package base on
package's dependency.

I realy like to see a proper package system too.
It is the legacy of SVR4 created over the past dozens years that stop use
from
getting a decent PMS on Solaris (IMHO). The best solution is to adopt TWW's
HPMS
system, so we can do decent package management activities on Solaris. I feel
stupid
whe I need to package a software for Solaris or install/remove a package
that dependency
on other packages. I have no more such discomforts after I switch TWW's
HPMS. it offer
least intrusion into existing OS.
Otto, I like to invite you to take a look at TWW HPMS and OSMOT that has
/opt/moto
installation path. I belive SPS or pkg-get try to achieve are all
implemented by TWW's HPMS.
You can even change the installatoin path from /opt/moto to /opt/otto If you
like
to maintain your own distribution of packages ;)
