Only in non-RAID mode. There are SATA frameworks going back into Solaris, but they probably won't go in until later in the year. As soon as they do, you will have access to them in OpenSolaris, shortly after. In the meantime you need to make sure that your SATA controller is not in RAID mode, it must be in IDE Compatiblility mode. Solaris will not install or recognize it, if it is in RAID mode. Some controller do not allow you to change it, but most motherboards do. I have an Adaptec 1205SA that works fine, it is a non-RAID controller, and it has the 3112 chipset on it. I also run a Tyan 2885 at Sun which is using SATA on a 3114 chipset. I run a Tyan 2885 that I put together at home, but I use SCSI on it. I typically haven't run non-SCSI in my home systems in the past, but wanted to try SATA on one machine. I had to try 3 different add-in cards to get one that worked, but I know the Adaptec works. As I said, most onboard SATA chipsets should allow you to set the controller in non-RAID mode, I know that one of the ASUS mobos I've used did as well (it had 3114 in it). -- Alan DuBoff - Sun Microsystems Solaris x86 Engineering _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
