Wish I had seen this sooner. I re-installed nv23 on a Turion64 notebook. This time, I was prompted for network data (i.e., NIC was recognized by the installation routine), but encountered "installation failure" wrt Discs 2 & 4. Really didn't know what to do, so I proceeded with the installation anyway. The end results are: (1) the screen was instantly locked during booting when nv23 moved into GUI mode (i.e., right before the login screen); and (2) my XP partition was corrupted (was able to boot, with GRUB, into the Windows partition, but XP won't start). Based on my experience from playing with two machines, I am able to see exciting improvements in nv23 (e.g., direct dual-boot b/t Solaris and Windows). However, for potential new users, it is probably a better idea to recommend Solaris 10 FCS. While I am here, I was wondering whether I could get input on the following couple of questions: (1) How do I update Solaris 10 software? What are involved in the $120 barebone upgrade package? (2) How do I configure tcpip in Solaris? DNS client? The second question is important in that the installation scripts seem to recognize much less hardware than are actually supported.
