Of course the fastest (and surest) way to power off a machine is to unplug the power cord (most motherboards nowadays have a default BIOS setup which requires you to hold the power button for at least 5 seconds before you can turn your power off). But, yes, I do know what I am doing. (Since there is no STR implementation on either Fedora or Solaris, yet, I have to power down/on my machine quite often.) And, since the topic here is about StarOffice 8, there should be no confusion that I am talking about OpenSolaris (whatever that means) desktop systems running on notebooks.
