The "Program Roadmap" is a good idea that could be made great with the addition of *some* kind of indication of the progress toward each milestone in the roadmap.
Check marks would be useful -- perhaps 4 distinct marks for 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% completion, respectively, of each goal that is identified. There are many good reasons to do this: e.g., identifying tangible movement toward the ultimate end, keeping excitement about the project high, repeatedly bringing people back to the roadmap, and turning attention toward "hotspots" of activity and to areas that are lagging and in need of extra attention. Further, each goal should have a hyperlink to *at least* an elaboration on what the goal is exactly, why it is important, and something about how things are going in regard to that goal -- just a brief, not a long log. Phrases like "self-service testing" or "Xorg" are very nebulous without a link to an explanation. The goal "Charter and bylaws ratified" should be hyperlinked to a page that includes links to the actual texts. Without the dynamic elements this letter proposes, the roadmap will continue to appear pretty dull, with its essentially static nature making it seem like little is actually getting done -- which we know is not the case. -- Dave Braun, MultiTask ComputerWorks ##### This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
