Hi all, I'd like to propose the creation of a community for technologies related to ZFS (Zettabyte File System).
Don't get too excited-- ZFS hasn't finished the spin cycle in the machine just yet; and no, I can't say when that will happen. But it would be good to have a community, and especially a mailing list ready for the day it does become available. ZFS (the Zettabyte File System) is Sun's next generation filesystem, aimed at providing unparalleled data integrity and scalability under a simplified administration model. We know that some folks have felt "teased" about ZFS for a long time. This is *not* an attempt to do more of that; but we do hope the OpenSolaris community will acquiesce to the creation of this website community so that it eventually has a home. It may be that in the future, a larger "Data and Storage Management" community will subsume the ZFS community, UFS community and others. Stephen Hahn has talked about doing some reclassification of communities into "projects" in the future-- but we don't have that capability today, and so we're proposing a ZFS community until that day arrives. Those wishing to learn more about what ZFS *will be* (we hope, anyway) may wish to review the following materials: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/ds/zfs.jsp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zettabyte_File_System http://www.filibeto.org/aduritz/truetrue/solaris10/henson-self-tune.pdf http://blogs.sun.com/ahrens http://blogs.sun.com/bonwick -dp -- Daniel Price - Solaris Kernel Engineering - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - blogs.sun.com/dp _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
