Shanon, Live upgrades of kernels (ala Ubuntu GNU/Linux) is not supported yet. This is something we are working on. This is not trivial feature at all and will require some time to implement.
For the time being you have to reinstall. Note that once you reinstall, upgrades for many others sunw* packages should just work.
