And something that might have been forgotten these days:

UNIX is a multi user system so it does not make sense to copy ideas from
single user solutions like MS WIN.....

Why should the person who by chance sits in front of the CD-ROM
be allowed to accidently eject a mounted CD-ROM that is currently used by 
another user that sits at the other side of the world logged in remotely?
