It exists for services that depend explicitly on DNS being available rather than "what ever nsswitch gives me". Currently the only services that have such a dependency are following: disabled Nov_25 svc:/network/security/kadmin:default disabled Nov_25 svc:/network/security/krb5kdc:default disabled Nov_25 svc:/network/security/krb5_prop:default These are the services for the Kerberos KDC. The other service which has a dependency on dns/client is: online Nov_25 svc:/milestone/name-services:default Which has an optional dependency on it, which means that in a normal system even with dns listed in nsswitch.conf DNS lookups will still work and milestone/name-services will still come on line. The source "dns" does NOT need to appear in nsswitch.conf for dns/client service to come on line only the existence of an /etc/resolv.conf file is needed to bring dns/client online. -- Darren J Moffat _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
