Yeah, so I feel there's probably no easy way to avoid duplication of work right now until such a stage where we have all of the JDS sources out on opensolaris.org with some sort of SCM solution. You guys at Blastwave probably have your own pressures to get a newer version of GNOME out as soon as possible. Hopefully we'll have a 2.12 dump in the next day or two, so that you can cherry pick any patches that you feel are necessary. > GNOME for Solaris needs to evolve between the > community developers and Sun engineers to we have a > more unified system to deliver the binaries to > everyone on all of the current distributions > (Solaris-Solaris Express). With Blastwave, JDS, Companion CD and other communities out there we have a whole pile of duplication going on. We're all more or less doing the same things - we need to sync up, and I'd love to see a shared solution in place. It just needs to happen, or at least someone to start figuring out the mechanics of how it might work. I've actually be really tempted to take a look at the companion CD sources and build environment and port them into the JDS build environment, effectively taking one variable out of the equation. I think it might be a good proof of concept, if I had the time. We'll definitely be working on providing binaries for people to install - it's on our radar, and it *will* happen, both for community stable and unstable releases. You'll be able to get the Sun stable versions through Solaris Express. Glynn _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
