I am one of the core developers for net-snmp (www.net-snmp.org). Those of you using Solaris 10+ know it as snmpd (as opposed to snmpdx).
In recent versions of the software we have been attempting to allow SNMP queries of sensors, specifically fans, temperature sensors and voltages where this is supported by the hardware. We are constrained by our use of the LM-SENSORS-MIB which was designed specifically around the LM75 sensor chip. This MIB was never designed to handle the wealth of sensors found on something like a V880. Hence we are considering the creation of a new MIB that takes a broader view of sensor information. Given that a lot of the development is centred around Solaris this MIB would necessarily/hopefully take into account the complexity of the information presented on current Sun hardware. Try running /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v. In writing the code for Solaris, I have been using information gleaned from kstat and/or picld. This may not be the most efficient approach. Is there any interest in the general community in pursing this?
