Hi, It seems to me that a lot of traffic in different discussion forums suffers from the fact that there is a lack of detail in the available info as to which chip-sets are actually supported by Solaris. Lots of people buy or try PC hardware and get it working to different levels of usability. I belive that a lot of "trail and horror" could be eliminated if a list like the bigadmin HCL or even the HCL itself, can be setup that clearly defines all the different chipsets: Northbridge/Southbridge, and chipsets controlling graphics, ethernet, audio, USB, and secondary storage that Solaris is known to work with or designed to work with.
The HCL as it is today where previously tested equipment is listed , is not sufficient, because the PC hardware arena is as we know always in furiuos development, And its simply impossible to buy what was sold six months ago. If I know what is supposed to work when I go and buy some new hardware, I will make fewer return trips to the shop returning unusable pci-boards and USB devices and will be much happier ! //Lars This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
