Solaris 8?  Well, that explains a lot.  Have you looked at Solaris 10?
The difference between Solaris 8 and 10 is like chalk and cheese.  You
can't possible criticise Solaris in the present tense while talking
about Solaris 8 (past tense, perhaps).

Also, unless I am mistaken, Sun didn't bundle SSH with Solaris until
Solaris 9.

Seems to me that you're advocating security by obscurity.  It never
works.  Brute force attacks won't bother trying to determine what
platform you're using, they'll just try 'em all.
