Whether you see a block device in /vol/dev/ or not makes no difference. Until you see a /cdrom/cdrom0/ entry, you're out of luck. I've just had this happen on Solaris 10 x86 1/06, so obviously `vold` still has problems. `vold` has been Sun problem child for many 'generations' / revisions of Solaris now, and apparently it still is, in spite of recent fixes / improvements. I know it is `vold` causing trouble because the audio on my system works.
