I am planning on building a BT878 based video capture card driver for Solaris to build a PVR (Myth-TV like).
I don't know what the numbers are anymore but I believe in the 2000 time frame greater than 50% of the corporate and financial information in the United States was locked away in mainframes. The attempt to add Unix and thus web services to the mainframe operating systems, OpenEdition, was less than satisfactory. One of the biggest uses of Linux on zSeries is to provide web access to mainframe data in DB2 or IMS databases. So, is there an opportunity or need for Solaris to run on zSeries? We don't really know but we don't necessarily like giving up this market to Linux.
