Badly, I suspect.

The problem I have with screen - and tabs in gnome-terminal - is that I
often
end up needing to view windows simultaneously side-by-side.

It would be nice (RFE time...) if gnome-terminal allowed you to promote
a tab
to a separate window. Then I could start out with tabs and only make a
window
later if I needed to.

Another problem here is finding the right terminal. If I have multiple
sessions in a single window, how can I easily find which window they're
in?

Mind you, one reason I have 77 XTerms (that's in a single desktop, I
have
multiple desktops, each with many gnome-terminals and xterms) is that
the
way that lots of windows are handed isn't very good, so if I can't
easily
find the window I want I open up another one.

(Although, if I go back to the original topic, CDE was even worse at
handling
this sort of thing.)
