That is true; they'll just run on forever.

With a little bit of skill, one can nail a Netra X1 server on ebay for under 
$500 USD.

They most certainly do, and I'm familiar with them. No argument there.
But times have changed, haven't they?

Now is the age of high-density, low power consumption servers. Space is at a 
premium, and of course there are cooling issues to deal with; but most 
importantly, running a server has to be affordable; a V880 or V890 has to be 
churning on something that brings in more money than it uses electricity, or 
else he's not viable to run.

Well, next time I'm in the US, we can arrange for a tour of my basement data 
center there; I believe it's about 5 hours drive for you.

Or if you ever take a trip to Europe, you can take a look at the gear in my 
basement here :)
