Here's a write-up of some ideas (based on recent experiences and a few of my blog posts and other proselytizing) that have been really rattling around in my head this weekend.
I think I'll call it "Broadcast, Notify, and Submit -- How to Immortalize your Tech-tips in Three Easy Steps." (It's actually 5 steps, but 3 makes for a catchier title. ;-) ) Feedback welcome. -Eric Step 1 - Broadcast (and tag) ---------------------------- Broadcast ("meta RSS syndicate") your piece by posting it the top two news/tagging syndication sites: del.icio.us and digg.com. (Are there any others that come close to these two?). Note: If you only do one of these steps, this should be the one. There are two reasons: it's really easy to do and it often results in others doing some of remaining steps for you. Step 2 - Notify (the technology-specific mail-list --------------------------------------------------- There is probably a mail-list on opensolaris.org specific to the technology that your piece is about. Notify that community by posting a message there. Step 3 - Submit --------------- 3a. Review/development: Submit the piece for peer review and further development or co-development to a UNIX/Linux documentation group such as the OpenSolaris Content Project. 3b. Content aggregation: Submit the piece to a UNIX/Linux content aggregator such as Sun's BigAdmin 3c. News Aggregation: Submit the piece to one or more traditional UNIX/Linux news aggregator site. Major ones are OSNews, Linux Weekly News, and, if you're feeling lucky, Slashdot. (By "traditional", I mean sites with a content gatekeeper, as opposed the "new-gen" sites like del.icio.us and digg.com.) _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
