Be careful when trying to make tis kind of conclusions.
The way Linux File I/O is implemented makes it impossible to know _what_
you meter in a certain amount of time.
If you e.g. unpack a Linux kernel source tar archive on Linux using GNU tar,
GNU tar finishes _before_ any disk operation related to the extract has been
performed.
