I've posted the bash and perl scripts I wrote to generate the
sub-section content of the rollup messages I've been posting lately.

The first one calls the 2nd one.
All the usual caveats of prototype script-writing apply: I'm posting
them not so much for others to use (although you're welcome to try) but
so people who are interested can see the approach I used, where the raw
data comes from, and maybe ultimately improve it (for example there's
way too little error checking) -- or better yet, completely re-write it
so it's self-contained, e.g. in a perl script. One thing you'll notice
is that I lazily use several freeware tools to do different things when
fewer would be better, plus I assume that all of them are in $PATH
already. For example I use formail, lynx, pine, and wget to do certain
things.
After running the main script, I just bring up a template, cut and paste
the content for the first small section based on what's in the "origs"
file and the "leaders" file, and then pull in the contents of the files
"byposter" and "bythread", verbatim.
