Consider this in regards proposing a central repository in Unifying
configuration files management usage, we should all remember that SUN One /
IPlanet Directory server 5.x allows for Implementing a Custom Map that this
could be leveraged to handle this issue as well and since there is already a
Solaris nss/ldap/pam API for a central LDAP repository see “Example
2–Implementing a Custom Map” URL of
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/816-4556/6maort2to?a=view , so this proposed
API should include LDAP compatibly that supports the RFC-2307 as well as XML
library support mentioned used in standardized with dealing in Unix services
configuration files and even more abstract is using a UDDI registry service
presentation standard for service advertising for Unix services would be a long
term goal, but using LDAP as a repository is really the best long term
solution, so LDAP could be used as is a layer below a UDDI, to supply Solaris
services configuration settings and then XML and last files just like in the
nss order of naming services!
