I'm not exactly sure what the point of your mail was. Either you are saying the issue is the DVD medium/hardware itself and not the installer, or you're saying you agree that the installer is flawed. If you meant the dvd medium/hardware is at fault, then why can most other OS's be installed off a dvd at much quicker rates, some with more data? It's about optimizing the installer for the medium. This has been rehashed (along with potential solutions) a half dozen times, so I won't go over all the issues once again. Needless to say, it's not that DVDs/drives themselves are flawed, it's that the installer needs to be intelligent enough to be efficient while operating from DVD medium. That, and the disk image needs to be optimized to work efficiently as well.
