Hi Karyn,
The general faq seem to me more marketing/sales people oriented than
developer oriented (I'm silently assuming here that developers are the
main users of osol.org site).
I'd at least add the following questions (given the fact that lot of
people that come to osol.org are linux people)
Q: How does Solaris relate to other Unixes (Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD).
A: SYSV API, BSD API, history, binary incompatibilities, source
incompatibilities, kernel vs. userspace, userspace tools different from
GNU userland, etc. (make,patch,tar nightmare)
Q: How can I get additional sw to my opensolaris
A: PKGv4 format vs. rpm/deb/tar.gz, nonexistence of repositories,
blastwave, sunfreeware, relation to solaris express
Q: What are binary patches, and why they are here:
A: History; to fix broken package management; live with that for now.
Note that I don't know the answers to these, otherwise I'd be willing to
contribute the whole answers :)
thanx,
Martin

Several of us on the OpenSolaris engineering team are looking to update
FAQs. I've been assigned the General FAQ (
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/about/faq/general_faq/ ), and I really
need all of your help. Questions that have come to my mind as I've
reviewed this document:
* Are these questions really asked frequently? These are the questions
we thought were asked most frequently before launch, but my guess is
that has changed. Please provide any new questions, modifications to
these questions, and suggestions on what questions can be deleted.
* Is the General FAQ general enough? I actually already know the
answer: no! It is very ON-centric -- which made sense when we
launched, but no longer makes sense. Feel free to pass along any
questions/answers that are not clear now that OpenSolaris is broader
than it was at launch.
* Are there any answers that could be more helpful/clearer?
My printed copy is covered with comments and prompts to myself. I'll
definitely send out a version of it for review once I force myself to
work through my comments, and incorporate any comments I have from you all.
I'd like to get this updated by 4/10, so please send me feedback by 4/7.
I'll send out an update based on my own comments (and any comments I get
in the next couple of days) next week.
Thanks!
Karyn
