I STRONGLY agree with that. The dictate of the
MUST-WRAP-AT-80-CHARACTERS has damaged lots of code and makes even
simple string literals quite difficult to read quickly.

You can extend |printf()| to string literals in general - and complex
calculations could be much easier formatted when there would be little
bit more space (usually within less than 10-12 chars) allowed. It's
about maintainability of the sourc code - and the 80 character limit is
somewhat of an ancient limitation (and Casper's examples are really not
that convincing (nor are my examples, lets call it a stalemate for now))
