Maybe I was a little bit harsh with my comments about X. But my opinion
is still, that X is in need of a major overhaul (someday...).

I'm not using X that much anymore in the sense of opening remote
applications. And if I do, then over an ssh tunnel, which is, accessed
over e.g. an VPN Tunnel is really slow.

There are better ways to open GUI applications remotly (SunRay
Protocol? Tarantella? Web-Interface?). Also, I find Apple's Quartz is
technically much more elegant, and you can run X on it, for "legacy"
apps. Of course, writing a replacement for X would require a huge
effort.

I hope I haven't offended anyone. I still use X alot, but I also use
Quartz, and this allows me to compare.

PS: Sorry for the disclaimer, but I am not able to remove it...
