LiveDVD is on the radar for BeleniX. A 4.7GB DVD

ill allow
9GB of software to be bundled and boot faster than
a CD.
I don't know if compression is all that important with 4.7GB
let alone we now have dual layer dvd's with 8.5 with
no compression.
Compression is critical for any LiveCD/DVD. It is not only for
the quantity of software that you put but also for performance.
A LiveCD/DVD will work 3-4 times slower without compression
and will prevent optimizations like preloading of libraries to be
of any practical use.
If you have noted reports of earlier experiments with ZFS. ZFS
on harddisk with compression turned on performs better than
ZFS without compression and even UFS.
In addition I am working on getting Nvidia drivers
in BeleniX. There
s currently
an issue with Nvidia GLX for Solaris hanging with
the stock Xorg 6.9.
will have
to try the Xorg from the X consolidation sources.
I don't have a hang problem with the 8756 version of
Nvidia drivers for Solaris. Although I found out
you had to use the --no-use-edid-freqs in the
nvidia-xconfig option as it did not determine the
correct freq of my lcd. The symptom was a
a black screen.
You do not have a problem because you are using Solaris
Express which has the Xorg from the Solaris X Consolidation:
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/x_win/sources/
The Xorg in BeleniX is built from the Xorg sources from
www.x.org. So if I enable Nvidia GLX module, the Xserver
in BeleniX loads all extensions and modules but fails to
initialise the display and the console hangs although the
system is still alive and accessible via ssh.
The Xorg log file has no error messages and pstack does
not show any stack, though it appears to indicate a an
infinite loop where xf86floor gets called repeatedly.
Having Nvidia
rivers will allow
Looking Glass, Xgl ...
As an aside libmawt.so in Java 1.5 for Solaris also
seems to have
ome trouble with
the libX11 from the standard Xorg while using the
X consolidation
ibX11 make
Still Java 1.4 is delivered with Open Solaris. You
didn't mention the bugid if was realated to 1.5 only.
I did not try with Java 1.4 . A small correction: Java is not
a part of OpenSolaris. It is bundled with Solaris Express
distribution.

Moinak.
