Hi,

A little later than usual, here's OpenSolaris Weekly News #11. As always
feedback, or content [from the missing represented communities] welcome.

Stephen Hahn posted [4] an example of an outline of an organization's bylaws
for discussion. Ben Rockwood followed up [5] with some investigations of other
bylaws from different organizations. Ben posted [6] some ideas of how the
project
might structure itself in terms of membership, adapting some ideas from the
OpenOffice.org model. Roy Fielding noted [7] that we should be careful about the
threshold of an 'observer', with regard to voting rights as may invariably
mis-guide the community. Stephen Hahn posted [8] with some thoughts about
possible
thresholds for community contributions. Ben created [9] a wiki page for people
to collaborate on governance discussions.

Ben Rockwood posted [10] some ideas of how to approach a possible community
reorganization, with a particular focus on promoting core communities rather than demoting existing ones. Ben also mailed a summary [11] of what questions
need to be asked before any constitution is written. John Plocher replied [12]
noting that constitution needed to be the 'architecture' of the organization,
distinct from 'the design and implementation'. Glynn Foster argued [13] that
the OGB needed to be a non-technical body responsible to sustain the success
of the project, with Simon Phipps describing [14] it as 'an exception handler'.
Rich Teer responded [15] asking who would be responsible for the strategic
direction of the project. Simon replied [16] saying that Solaris wasn't
dominated
by a single individual or group, and that OpenSolaris should be similar.

that he was working on, that would use the current events port framework in
Solaris. John Levon mentioned [27] that desktop search would be a good use
case for designing an API, with Darren Kenny emphasizing [28] that the API
that people needed to write to was most important rather than the bridge
