Depends on what you expect from your OS.

If you expect a "nice" (*) GUI but no rich set of features go and use Pac OS X
or maybe Linux

If you expect a nice OS with a rich set of features, Solaris is the right 
way to go but then you should not expect everything from the GUI at the same 
time. Once the growing acceptance of Solaris did attract more developers, you 
will see the GUI features too, but I expect this to happen in 1-3 years and not
on 2006.
