Hi All,

I have recently installed 'Solaris Nevada snv_35 X86' BrandZ DVD.

All is working well...

I would like to use smpatch analyze and update.

I have not purchased any Service Contracts with Sun nor do I plan too,
as this strictly for personal use and knowledge gain. I understand that
one has free access to security updates and new hardware drivers.

Yet when I run smpatch analyze I receive the following error:

Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve detectors: Authentication failed due
to bad credentials. You may need to re-register this system.

Is an account required?

Hi Tim -

smpatch & Sun Update manager are only for use on sustaining
releases, not for OpenSolaris/SolarisExpress/Nevada builds.

You get the fixes for your SolarisExpress by upgrading to
the next rev once it is avaiable - there are no patches.

If you want support of any sort (security patches/hot fixes),
in a "pick & choose" sort of variety, you'll need to run
Solaris 10.

Of course, you have potential of getting fixes faster
through Solaris Express, because the patch process takes
time :)
