Another short summary this week - I guess everyone was canvassing
outside the Adobe offices after this weeks big thread to port their PDF
viewer to Solaris ;)

Moinak Ghosh announced [1] that BelaniX 0.4.3a was now available, one of the
first OpenSolaris distributions to include JDK 1.5, licensed under the new
Distribution License for Java.

Karyn Ritter announced [2] that build 40 of Solaris Express Community release
was
now available.

Alan Coopersmith mailed [3] saying that there was updates to the X consolidation
for build 41. He followed up [4] mentioning that there was new screensaver eye
candy with an update of the 4.05 sources to 5.0 that included new sizzle, but
noted that package wouldn't integrate for another few builds until it was
properly
tested.

Ghee Teo mailed [5] asking for feedback on improvements that could be made to
printing in JDS, mentioning that much of the functionality was already available
in OpenSolaris but wasn't presented well enough.

Rich Morin asked [6] if there was a way to set up conditional tracing of
system calls. Bryan Cantrill replied [7] saying it was easy to do with DTrace
providing a short example demonstrating this.

James McPherson forward [8] an announcement to say that DTrace on FreeBSD
was a step closer. Out of 1039 DTrace tests that run on Solaris, 793 now
pass on FreeBSD. John Birrell, who's currently working on this porting,
mentioned
that there was plenty of work to do if anyone wanted to help out.

Sara Dornsife mailed [9] a proposal for OpenSolaris Contributor Awards, in
coordination with the anniversary celebrations. Linda Bernal mailed [10]
with a reminder that they are in the process of accepting contributions for
the next edition of the OpenSolaris newsletter. Linda also mailed [11] out
the latest meeting minutes for the program team, detailing that Sun Studio 11
support for ON would be pushed out to June/July and mentioning that
consolidations would have to choose between compiling with 10 or 11 in the
future.

Yonghong Lai proposed [12] Simplified Solaris Device Naming which aims to
solve a couple of problems like providing device virtualization for Zones,
flexible device access control for removable/hotpluggable devices, and others.
