I received my first Sun for home use in May 1986 for developing SCSI drivers.
In the first week of August 1986, I developed the first SCSI generic pass
through system that is still in use for cdrecord.

I use Sun system at home exclusively untill 1997, then I added a Linux system.
>From 2000-2003, I did use Linux as the main system (the one with the screen)
at home and was not really satisfied because I constantly needed to work on the
system in order to keep it running decently. In 2003, I switched the the main
system at home to Solaris 9 x86.....

This did take a week until I was satisfied with the desktop (mainly because of
the default F1 mapping that was peeving me as my editor uses F1 for "QUIT"
since 1984) however later I could forget it as it did not need any more
maintenance (unlike the Linux system).

There are many other reasons not to develop under Linux:

- I need a decent debugger like mdb/adb which is not available on Linux

- I need full control over SCSI error codes which is not available on
Linux. If I don't have this kind of control, I cannot develop programs
        like cdrecord

- Programs developed on Linux seem to have less initial partability than
        those developed omn Solaris

- Unstable interfaces in Linux make it hard to decide whether a problem
internal to Linux or made by me and one of my programs

What we need to do is to tell this to other people and let the number of
people grow who use Solaris for development.
