The CIFS client for Solaris is a virtual file system on Solaris providing access to the servers which support the CIFS protocol, which is the natural file sharing protocol on Windows; Samba on Unix/Linux is a CIFS server implementation.
Using the CIFS client, users can mount remote CIFS server shares (directories) on their system. This project will not include printing via CIFS. We are currently porting smbfs and associated libraries, modules, and utilities from the Darwin branch of NetBSD to Solaris, and invite the community to participate in this effort. The CIFS Client project is proposed as an open project.
