Dennis - of course you have a valid point and I think that its great that
you followup and express your dis-satisfaction that one of your nominees
did not receive an award.

Casper and I felt strongly that the CAB/OGB members should not be eligible
- since we were acting as judges. And we reached a majority consensus of
the CAB/OGB that this was not appropriate. Also, it is very usual, in any
contest/competition, for the judges and organizers to be excluded to avoid
any signs of a conflict of interest or any self-serving behavior.

Personally I think its much better that we have some community members
miffed that their nominees did'nt get an award, rather than have some
community members accusing the organizers and judges of conflict(s) of
interest. The former position is defensible. The latter is certainly
not.

Now; could this have been handled better? You bet. Should we have
published some ground rules at the first mention of the 2006 Contributor
Awards? You bet.

If anyone is interested in the offlist discussions that took place between
the CAB members, please email me and I'll be glad to cut/paste all the
email traffic and send you a copy - assuming that none of the participants
object. There was really no substantive "discussion" - since most of it
had already taken place on cab-discuss. So I still think it was not worth
the bandwidth to clutter up cab-discuss with at the time. Altough it
would be a lot less clutter to post the exchanges as a single email to a
list. If I get a lot of requests for this email traffic, I'll followup
and post it to cab-discuss.

That is an excellent idea. And we should definately avoid using the
CAB/OGB in any situation where we want them to be eligible for an award.

In my case, I agree 100% - and many thanks to those who nominated me.
