This is a known issue and it tracked as
6401926 new-boot KU can not be applied from pre new-boot (gzip-less)
miniroot
There are a number of workarounds:
1) pkgadd(1M) SUNWgzip to the miniroot
2) Before rebooting (namely, delect auto-boot on the install), add
/a/usr/bin to
your path and then run
bootadm update-archive -R /a
3) Or do the same via your JumpStart finish script
