x86 systems allow up to *four* different fdisk partitions on a disk. *Only one* of them can be Solaris partition. Now you have confirmed Solaris currently cannot be installed into a DOS Extended Partition. So the question is, can we install two OpenSolaris distributions (or two versions of the same distribution) to one disk? two disks?
You can have multiple Solaris slices, all within the same single fdisk partition.
It may also be possible to use different primary partitions for different installs, but (at least in the past) if you wanted to have a shared partition such as /export/home mountable from more than one Solaris version, multiple-slices-in-one-fdisk-partition is probably what you want, since otherwise you only got to mount slices from one of the partitions.
