I wouldn't put it as strongly as that, we tried we didn't reach
consensus so we shipped what we wanted for Solaris. We tried again a
few times for some changes and some got implemented, some didn't.
Eventually we gave up trying due to various differences of opinion.

This almost feels like the Schilling-CDDL-Debian situation.
Not really it was technical difference of opinion on how to architect
and code and the importance of the functionality.
