PPD files delivered in SUNW* packages should be listed in the ppdcache. If they are not, it's very likely an oversight and therefore a bug. The ppdcache management tools that Cindy posted about a while back will provide a means of easily updating and rebuilding the cache.

As we update the packages that provide support for various printer models, It's likely that we will start to move the PPD files in with those packages so you end up with PPD files that match the various drivers you have installed.

One thing I suggest you try with your ppd file below is into
/usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/system/foomatic/HP
as HP-DeskJet_722C-pnm2ppa.ppd.gz

For the 'printmgr' (/usr/sbin/printmgr) to be able to see this new ppd file the /usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/ppdcache file has to be edited appropriately to include the new file's path and definitions.

<dumb question>

So why is the ppdcache file shipped with several of the included-with-Solaris PPD file missing? Does a bug need to be filed?
