Sign up for a Sunsolve account , see the page on download patches , you can sign up , see the rules and so forth . (paid support is not a bad value, even paid phone support is cheaper then RH ).
Then on Solaris 8/9 from what I have used befure: look in /etc/patch or /etc/opt/SUNWppro/etc or in some casses if you download patchpro as a seperate package that SUN offers on Sunsolve download page. Look in the dir structure /opt/SUNWppro to fund the patchro.conf file , then touch secret.conf file , it is un the same dir as patchpro.conf and under Solaris 10 uses /etc/patch/patch.conf, but it's not used for the properties! touch secret.conf pprosetup -u yoursunsovleaccount For no proxy settings run: pprosetup -x add your sunsovle pw entry cd /usr vi lib/.sunsolvepw Solaris 10 305/106 and 606 only, via the GUI patch tool with your Sunsolve account/pw, for command line options in using the smpatch set (see man page) to analyze and download and update options and this works work great Use luupgrade to update from one OpenSolaris to the next version! you can use two disks or two seperate partitions i.e s0 to s4 (same no of blocks or bigger , check your df -k, also can be used with SVM ) if you want to! for x86 make sure your fdisk is setup for eneogh space with your other PC OS's and for both slices to add a s4 for example! it updates in the correct order, there is a exclude patch list if a lernel patch is not applied in multi user mode, and in single user mode it wants to look for the active network, not sure if this is a bug! One way around this issue is the luupgrade command 1. run lucreate 2. run luupgrade to a new root image on s4 or can be used with SVM 3. run luactivate Note with generic Solaris 8/9/10 (Not OpenSolaris) the luupgrade -T and t works. luupgrade -T(remove) and -t(add) for patches and the luupgrade -P(remove) and -p(add) packages , the luupgrade is a better way to go, you can use another partition for root that is not active or make space and then run a luactivate when complete!
