Yes, this is possible, if you have an ITU ("install time update" ?)
floppy or cd media.  Such an ITU can add additional drivers or
driver binding entries.

has an example.  Both the "elxl" and "iprb" driver on that ITU
contain a package that just adds a few additional driver alias
entries to the "elxl" / "iprb" driver so that the rest of the installation
should be able to find the newly "supported" NIC.
