I've just installed opensolaris on an amd64 computer. everything seems to work
ok, but I have no sound and I'm not able to connect to the internet. I connect
to the internet via home network. I have a little experience with linux, but
this is my first time trying solaris, so if someone can also point me to a good
beginner's guide, I'd be grateful!
I've tried ifconfig eth0, but it says no such interface...
interface names are different in solaris, they depend on the actual
nic you have, for example, realtek cards are named rtls0, check in the
hcl [0] to see if your nick is supported at all. you can list the
available interfaces using ifconfig -a
the same thing can be said about the sound card, you must check if
there is support for your sound card in the hcl, there are some third
party free sound card modules in [1]
also on [2] there is a link to the page of a company that makes oss
drivers for solaris, there is a trial version that works for 30 days
or you can pay to have a full working version.
on a side note, there are great solaris manuals at sun.com, you should
give them a go when you have some free time
hope it helps
