Both the 32-bit and 64-bit kernels are installed on x86 systems; systems
that are 64-bit capable will boot the 64-bit kernel by default after 
installation.
You can override this; have a look at section 4.2 of:

http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/articles/grub_boot_solaris.html

How exactly is the 64-bit kernel unstable?
