VRRP and HSRP are covered by essential patents owned by Cisco and IBM.
I think such a project, hosted by opensolaris.org, would be fairly
risky without a very careful review of the IPR situation.

Cisco, in particular, has said that it doesn't see value in pursuing
VRRP over its proprietary HSRP, and that patents might be a way to
manage that situation:

Given all that, a reluctant -1 from me, at least until someone can
secure whatever licenses may be necessary.

Also, a -1000 on interoperability.  :-/
