VRRP and HSRP are covered by essential patents owned by Cisco and IBM. I think such a project, hosted by opensolaris.org, would be fairly risky without a very careful review of the IPR situation. https://datatracker.ietf.org/public/ipr_search.cgi?option=rfc_search&rfc_search=2338 Cisco, in particular, has said that it doesn't see value in pursuing VRRP over its proprietary HSRP, and that patents might be a way to manage that situation: http://www.ietf.org/ietf/IPR/VRRP-CISCO Given all that, a reluctant -1 from me, at least until someone can secure whatever licenses may be necessary. Also, a -1000 on interoperability. :-/ -- James Carlson, KISS Network <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun Microsystems / 1 Network Drive 71.232W Vox +1 781 442 2084 MS UBUR02-212 / Burlington MA 01803-2757 42.496N Fax +1 781 442 1677 _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list [email protected]
