There are rumours that Solaris 10 Update 3 will contain support for the
hypervisor of the SPARC T1 CPUS in the T1000 / T2000.
I don't know about Update 3. But the hypervisor is an integral part of
sun4v. Just T1000/T2000 firmware that ships at the moment isn't LDom-
capable yet. I.e. the kernel on a T1000/T2000 runs as hypervisor client,
but the firmware is not "hypervisoring" it just provides the API.
I don't know when the the LDom-capable firmware will be released.
Even Solaris 10 Update 1 (whatever the first was that supports the
Niagaras) runs on the hypervisor. Any OS written for sun4v is _always_
hypervisor client.
I've searched on opensolaris.org, sunsolve, docs.sun.com, and
www.opensparc.net but I did not find any relevant information on how to
use the hypervisor.
As far as programming for it, the documentation is on opensparc.net, these
are a starting point:
http://opensparc-t1.sunsource.net/index.html
See "Hypervisor API specificaton". Ashley Saulsbury has written a
presentation that briefly skims about what you need to do to create
a client OS:
http://www.opensparc.net/publications/presentations/your-os-on-the-t1-hypervisor.html
That's "using" the hypervisor, but not "administrating" it ...
Where can I find information about the hypervisor for a administration
point of view (e.g. how to create LDOMs, how to manage LDOMs, etc)
Someone else may be able to chime in on this ?
