Wake on LAN is in my view going to be tough to push
as an RFE because the intended use case is radically

Most likely WOL capability will have to be done
entirely by an outside contributor for anything to
move forward in this area (which I find OK, because
OpenSolaris and Sun's interests mustn't necessarily
overlap). Perhaps it is just me, but I can't see the
priority being high for this.
Again, WOL is something that happens in hardware, and is really outside the
scope of the OS (with the exception of configuration and enablement tools).
When Solaris supports S3 on x86 machines (or S4 for the platforms that actully
support PME in S4), there will be _nothing_ the OS can do if any driver choose
to enable WOL.
The RFE that has been discussed was a raw configuration interface to a driver
specifically for the purpose of experimentation (oh, and for use by a "big"
customer - but the theory here is we can help the customer migrate when we come up with a
decent tool). I am interested in hearing from contributors on their ideas to an API and
a tool.
Since one sets this at the physical interface level it might be
interesting to be able to set this as part of an NWAM profile.
BTW it is probably a good idea to move this topic to networking-discuss,
cc'd and set reply-to there.
