Haim,

If you are seeking help on building ON in a Linux sandbox, I can think of a number of ways you could have approached this without putting the backs up of virtually every user on this mailing list. Solaris is not and never will be Linux. This is not to say Linux is inferior - just that Solaris is fundamentally different.

If you do not wish to participate in the OpenSolaris process, I would suggest you to consider using the current release of Solaris 10.

If you wish to learn more about the OpenSolaris/ON development process, take a look here:

Again, it is important to remember that Solaris is not Linux. Major Solaris releases tend to span years, not months or weeks. Because OpenSolaris is constantly evolving, many projects require the use of interfaces and/or tools that are only available after a given build of Nevada.

I'll keep my opinions on GNU tools to myself, but one thing I will mention is that the ON team has done a terrific job in making every effort to make the build process GNU friendly.

Remember, It is not a requirement of an operating system to be friendly to any build environment other than its own. I'd be quite interested in seeing how well Linux does if one were to use a non-GNU toolset.

I suggest taking a look at the ON community page and doing a little research:

If you feel that it is important for Nevada be buildable from a Linux sandbox, then why not start a project and dedicate some of your time and resources towards that end? After all, isnt that what OpenSolaris is all about?
