Project Proposal: Caiman, Solaris Install Revisited
I would like to propose the Caiman project for OpenSolaris.
Caiman is the code name for the project to create a new Solaris installation
experience. The current working ideas center on concepts such as:
* Updated and simplified graphical and text user interfaces which carry
Sun's current branding
* Integrated hardware compatibility testing
* Integrated live CD/DVD experience to provide the ability to use
Solaris without committing your hard drive to an install.
* Deep integration with the latest Solaris features, such as ZFS, Xen
and SMF
* Simplified system configuration, integrated with the
post-installation
experience
* Simple, fast, and reliable installation of additional software after
installation
* Easy upgrades
This project would live under the Installation and Packaging community.
