Wow! I had no idea my original post would lead to this much of discussions.

Anyway.. I got what I wanted know. . I think I will go with Nexenta for a while and then maybe eventually switch to the Community Express edition.
FWIW, I think that's an excellent choice for someone familiar with Linux and especially a Debian or an Ubuntu GNU/Linux.
I think with a small amount of fiddling you can get a native Open Solaris zone running in any case, in which case you'd be able to have a "host" Nexenta OS with the other Open Solaris based distributions (Belenix, Solaris Express etc etc) in zones.
